Designer, Theatremaker, Puppeteer
For more than fourteen years, Astrid Mendez has been artfully weaving her training as a designer with her inner most passion for theatre and puppetry.
In 2006 Astrid obtained a degree as an industrial designer from Universidad de Chile. Since then she has been collaborating and creating work for theatre companies from Chile, Australia, Czech Republic and Spain.
Her first solo puppet performance, ‘The Pilgrim,’ came into existence in 2015. Since its creation, it has been presented in Latin America, Australia and Europe receiving excellent reviews from audiences, prizes from festivals and funding grants from Creative Victoria.
This fulfilling journey has been pushing Astrid to continue exploring in her personal journey of migration which has proved to be an outlet for truly developing her creative skills as a catalyst to foster and nourish her artwork.
This year she was granted with a scholarship to pursue her studies in arts and puppetry in Europe in 2021-2022.
