Having been systematically trained in the Benaras Gharaana style under the tutelage of late Pandit Nandan Mehta and Pandit Pooran Maharaj (both disciples of the Tabla- doyen, late Pandit Kishen Maharaj), Jay brings over 25 years of experience as a professional musician. He has won several national accolades and has performed extensively with many renowned musicians like Grammy Award winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Grammy Award nominee Ustad Shujaat Khan, Pandit Sugato Naag, Smt Manju Mehta, and many more renowned musicians in India and abroad. Also recently, he had toured with India's National Award winner, Pandit Purbayan Chatterjee.
Since moving to Australia in 2006, Jay has made a remarkable contribution to the
Australian music arena and is one of the first choice Tabla players for international
touring artists from both, the Indian and Western music world.
