Multi-instrumentalist composer/performer
Jonathan Dimond is a multi-instrumentalist composer/performer, who brings together the worlds of Western classical, jazz and intercultural music.
Since undertaking formal studies in North Indian classical music in 1993, Dimond's compositions have been influenced by raga, and the rhythmic cycles and devices associated with both North and South Indian classical music. His formal musical education includes a PhD in Composition, Master of Music and Post Graduate Diploma of Music from New England Conservatory (USA), and a Bachelor of Music.
An important facet of Dimond's work is in the area of education, being involved in university music education since 1996. Dimond is currently senior lecturer and head of program at Melbourne Polytechnic, where he runs the Bachelor of Music degree. He also ran the Bachelor of Music (Jazz) at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University from 1997 prior to returning to the U.S.A. in 2002. Jonathan Dimond has extensive professional performance experience on trombone, tabla and electric bass guitar. Jonathan performs many of his original compositions with his current ensemble Tripataka.
