Culture Break | MAV Events

The Victorian Multicultural Commission, in partnership with MAV, the City of Melbourne, State Library Victoria and the Old Treasury Building are thrilled to deliver Culture Break. It’s a series of pop-up events across Melbourne to celebrate Victoria’s cultural diversity and talent.

Culture Break is being held during Cultural Diversity Week (CDW) – Victoria’s leading multicultural celebration held in March each year to coincide with the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Harmony Day on March 21.

25 MARCH (Thu)

Old Treasury Building Steps

Traditional and contemporary Brazilian folk music by guitarist, percussionist and vocalist Tide (12.15pm)
Singer-songwriter Nina Rose blends her velvety vocals and mellowing guitar rhythms taking you on a folky acoustic carpet ride. (1.15pm)
Ernie Gruner Trio‘s repertoire includes Klezmer, French, Latin, Jazz, Tango, Russian and more. (2.15pm)

Library Forecourt

Cinematic compositions and bass music by Indian artist Aarti Jadu (3pm)
Experimental music by Iranian born multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer Gelareh Pour (4pm)
Music by acoustic Gambian trio Yusupha Ngum and the Joloff Vibes (5pm)

26 MARCH (Fri)

Old Treasury Building Steps

Mindy Meng Wang brings her unique style of music which has been influenced by Chinese classical and western contemporary music. (12.15pm)
EHSAAS comprises of a trio of acclaimed South Asian musicians, who rework popular tunes across multiple genres into their unique contemporary vibe for today’s diaspora. (1.15pm)
The Cuban League Trio: A Cuban project led by Yunior Terry that blends traditional Cuban music (Rumba, Son, Cha-cha-cha) with Latin Jazz and Timba (modern day popular Cuban music). (2.15pm)

Contemporary beats by Argentinian band The New Monos (3pm)
Spoken word/hip-hop by second-generation Australian artist Nomad (4pm)
Music from the Senegalese Griot tradition by Jali Buba Kuyateh (5pm)
