Let's listen to the natural rhythms. Let's prepare for the longest night of the year.

Come join us to celebrate another cycle of the Sun, the NEW YEAR celebration of the natives of Abya Yala (aka Latin America) and beyond.

One of the most transcendental celebrations of annual natural cycles: We Tripantu / Inti Raymi, has roots thousands of years ago. It represents the rebirth of the Sun, an opportunity for a new beginning for all life forms. That is why it still is the most sacred ceremony of the Mapuche, Aymara, Quechua, and other ethnic groups from the Andes.

This time we have the honour to host an international artist from Chile, Rodrigo Gallardo. His music pioneered a global ethnic electronic movement that rediscovered ancient ritualistic rhythms and put them on the global electronic map for all of us to dance to.

Alongside Rodrigo, we will have a support act by SunSeeds, a perfect match for the organic, bass-driven and groovy music we have prepared for this celebration.

To complete the lineup we will have two ISU TAKI resident DJs, Cuerpo Negro and Otorongo, to play some of the most exquisite tunes Latin American ethno-organica/folktronica producers have released in the last few years. Infused with ancient melodies and powerful percussions, including -as usual- some Afro-Latin beats to make you shake it!

Inti Raymi / We Tripantu featuring RODRIGO GALLARDO is proudly presented by ISU TAKI, as part of MAV's NEWPRINT2 program, as supported by On The Road Again, a Victorian Government initiative to bring live music back across the state, and Australia Council for the Arts.

This event takes place on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. ISU TAKI respectfully acknowledges elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge ancient knowledge not only from Kuli Nation, but all across both continents: Australia and Abya Yala. Always was, always will be.

Creatives

Rodrigo Gallardo

Composer, Multi-Instrumentalist, Producer

Rodrigo Gallardo is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Chile. He began his journey in music from an early age, next to the charango and the zampoña.

ISU TAKI

Collective

ISU TAKI is a collective of Naarm-based Latin- American DJs/promoters that began as a response to the lack of representation of emerging movements of underground dancefloors across Abya Yala (aka Latin America).

Cuerpo Negro

DJ

Originally from Colombia and now based in Melbourne. Cuerpo Negro is a music selector who started out with the aim of sharing the vibrant rhythms of South American Folktronica in the Southern Hemisphere. Over time, the project has expanded to incorporate a range of world electronica elements, resulting in a sound that is both innovative and eclectic.

Otorongo

Music selector

Otorongo is a music selector originally from Chile but currently based in Naarm (Melbourne). He is known for transporting audiences to pristine ecosystems: tropical floodplains, mountain rainforests, or wherever your imagination feels the most comfortable. Otorongo's sets are filled with ethnic percussions, nature samples, and exotic instruments, and are driven by ancient rhythms carefully blended to ensure you feel free to dance. Usually playing from ethnic downtempo to eclectic Afrofuturism, passing through chillrave and tribal tech. This time he will share his taste for cumbia from yesterday and tomorrow.
