FUSE, the City of Darebin’s contemporary, multi-arts festival, is calling for a food enterprise to participate in Out of the Park Picnic, a free, outdoor event taking place on Sunday 12 March, 12-6pm, at Edwardes Lake Park, Reservoir. Out of the Park Picnic, programmed in partnership with MAV, features artists who reflect Darebin's diversity and talent, as well as creative activities for children and families. This expression of interest is for an enterprise to provide a culturally diverse food experience for Out of the Park Picnic. Working with FUSE, the successful applicant intention will create an inexpensive offering that echoes our values, including cultural and linguistic diversity, accessible pricing and inclusivity. Enterprises with community models and sustainable practices will be prioritised and are particularly encouraged to apply. Please note: this is not a commitment on FUSE’s behalf. Food providers will be selected by the curatorial team from a shortlist and applicants must be based in Darebin. There is no up-front fee or payment. We want your energy, colours, fabulousness, beats and moves to coalesce into an explosion of sound and movement.

This free outdoor music event is scheduled for Sunday March 12th, 2023 from 12pm to 6pm at Edwardes Lake Park, Reservoir. Out of the Park Picnic, programmed in partnership with MAV, features artists who reflect Darebin's diversity and talent, and also holds creative activities for children and families. The event is designed to provide a safe and inclusive space for families and friends to enjoy great talent while connecting with a valued community park. Volunteers are integral to this event, providing support, information and the visible face of the community. FUSE is looking for enthusiastic people who: Have worked in community settings Have experience with access or inclusion Enjoy community events/live music We would love to hear from people who speak languages in addition to English.

MAV is excited to share with you the Diasporas Artist Team, put together by the Diasporas Advisory Group. We would like to congratulate Vicki Kinai, Irihipeti Waretini, Katherine Gailer, Bella Waru, MzRizk and Julie Ann Minaai! This team of artists span many different art forms including but not limited to dance, weaving, filmmaking, visual and NFT art, DJ'ing, movement and sound art. These creatives are power houses, so watch this space as they collaborate to create something truly special for Diasporas 2023.

In the lead up to the Victorian 2022 State Election, The Arts Industry Council of Victoria (AICV) is calling on all political parties and independents to actively promote policy for the arts and creative industries ahead of the 2022 Victorian State Election. Following years of unprecedented disruption, it is vital that the creative industries receive increased and ongoing investment through what will be a long and complex period of recovery. “For Victoria to maintain our reputation as the cultural capital of Australia, a bold vision is required from government to ensure that artists, creative organisations, audiences, and our cultural infrastructure are supported to connect and evolve,” said AICV spokesperson, Michelle Silby.

Shepparton Culture Kitchen is excited to announce that they are looking for new participants for 2022-23. It is a project co-produced by MAV and Greater Shepparton City Council to explore the diverse food cultures of Shepperton's diaspora communities and the vital role they play in addressing significant issues of health inequity and disadvantage facing the region. Participating in this project, you will connect, learn and cook with women from other cultures who are passionate about food. You will develop your storytelling, creativity and gain leadership skills. You will be supported by professional artists to help you present your own food culture event. You will be paid for your time and commitment.

The MAV Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Andy Miller and Zii Nzira as Co-CEOs until the end of 2022. Andy has been acting in the role since the departure of our former CEO Veronica Pardo. Andy has a proven track record of arts management and has been a steady hand over the past months in guiding the organisation while we looked for a new CEO. Zii has been a board member for the past year and comes to us from a background in project management in government and private sector. He also runs his own music business and has been a founder of the Black Music Alliance Australia. He has a proven track record in leading and engaging with anti-racism, racial justice and cultural equity frameworks, reflecting both professional and lived experience. The appointment of Zii acts on the Board’s commitment to be a leader in the arts and multicultural sector. The CO-CEO appointments will be until the end of the year, while the Board undertakes an assessment of the recruitment process to appoint a long-term CEO from 2023 onwards. The Board thanks Andy and Zii for their enthusiasm to share the CEO role. Zii will officially take up the Co-CEO role on Monday 30 May 2022.
