Bendigo Cultural Exchange

MAV is activating the former Mining Exchange in the Beehive Building in Bendigo.

By arrangement with Pall Mall Nominees Pty Ltd., the Cultural Exchange is a place where First Nations and culturally diverse artists from many ethnicities create and share their art and culture on their own terms.

I’ve advocated for a while for an Aboriginal Art Gallery in Bendigo. This space will show the quality and diversity of work available by local Aboriginal artists. It is fabulous to see the mix of multicultural art and Aboriginal art on display. It will be very exciting to see the space develop over the next few months.

Being in the Cultural Exchange building on a personal level provides a space to make and display my artwork and provides a network of other artists to inspire creativity.

It is a wonderful opportunity for First Nations and culturally diverse artists to activate a colonial building with art for exhibition and sale and space to be creative and to learn, share, connect and collaborate with each other.

There is a real demand for space to be creative and share culture in Bendigo and it’s really important that artists and cultural groups are having the opportunity to lead this process.
– Forest Keegel, MAV Creative Producer

It is so much privilege to share and exchange Sri Lankan Arts and Culture together with all other multicultural artists including beautiful Australian Indigenous Artists from the heart of Bendigo.

In fact it’s a hub we all welcome everyone to explore and celebrate the Arts and Culture around the world.

My Aboriginal heritage, culture and art is so close to my heart, and people who know me, would also know that the lack of a space for Indigenous Artists to show their work within the City of Bendigo has been a longtime lament for me. At the same time, I feel a great affinity with people of other nationalities and various multicultural groups who have made Bendigo their home.

This opportunity to put the art and culture, of Aboriginal Artists together with other Cultural groups, in front of the Bendigo public and visitors to Bendigo is, for me an occasion of good fortune. It is exceptional and a special moment in time that I am very happy and thankful to be experiencing.
