#DistanceBetweenUs

In March, 2020, MAV launched #DistanceBetweenUs; a staff wellness program that integrates music, spoken word, visual and performance arts into the home workspaces of companies around Australia – preserving the morale of both artists and the broader workforce in light of the crisis.

WHAT IS IT?

The latest data indicates $280 million in lost income and 255,000 cancelled gigs for artists. They are facing a long period with no public performance opportunities. We are currently working with over 50 local musicians to bring music, art, poetry and discussion into workspaces.

The potential feelings of isolation, anxiety and poor motivation in these settings are real. Companies need to adapt to the new conditions. Incorporating music and art as part of a broader holistic, wellness strategy is something that will bring inspiration and positive engagement.

MAV’s focus is working with artists of colour whose experience of disadvantage may be compounded during the crisis.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Distance Between Us provides companies and staff a 15-minute performance from an artist of colour, who will phone in to scheduled video meetings as a creative way to inspire the team to maintain cohesion.

Zoom
Anyone conducting their meetings on Zoom can tune in.
*There are specific settings that we are aware of that will optimise audio to make the experience as immersive as possible.

Other
Let us know if you use another conferencing platform – we most likely will be able to accommodate.

WHY #DISTANCEBETWEENUS?

It’s a personalized experience that fosters an intimate connection engaging artists of colour with working communities and goes a step beyond artists streaming their gigs online.

For workers to watch an artist perform live and engage with them, together with their colleagues, is a positive intervention at a time of social distance.

Now is the time for companies to start planning for the wellness of their staff given the uncertainty of the times. Please consider art as a key part your wellness strategy.

*80% of fees go directly to artists, and 20% to MAV. MAV is a registered charity with the ACNC.
