MESS Recovery Residencies | Expressions of Interest Open

Developed to assist artists in getting back into their creative practice after the impacts of 2020,  MESS (Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio)MAV (Multicultural Arts Victoria) and LA (Liquid Architecture) are partnering to offer 20 electronic sound artists 2-week ‘Recovery Residencies’ at the MESS Studio to produce a new electronic track of a length of their choosing.

With the support of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, the 20 successful applicants will have access to the world-class MESS collection of electronic instruments over a 2-week period and the outcome, a track from each artist – mastered by MESS, will be presented as a free, non-commercial compilation on the MESS SoundCloud and across the MESS, MAV and LA social media and web channels. The copyright to this track rests with the artist (more details below).

Each of the 20 successful participating artists will receive $1500 ex. GST at the completion of their 2-week residency.

This opportunity is open to participants aged 18+ and is suited to practising electronic sound artists at any stage of their careers – emerging, mid-career and established artists are encouraged to apply. Applications will be assessed by representatives from MESS, MAV and LA.

The residencies will be run in 2-week blocks starting from May 17 to August 22, 2021 – please indicate in this form the fortnight blocks you are available.

During their 2-week residency, artists will have access to the MESS Studio on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1pm-5pm each week, plus a weeknight 6pm-10pm or Saturday 1pm-5pm session – please indicate in this form if you’d prefer a weeknight or Saturday session.

Successful applicants will be required to sign a license agreement to grant MESS permission to feature your track on a free, non-commercial compilation on the MESS SoundCloud. All copyright to this track and any other material created at the MESS Studio rests with the artist. A link to an example agreement is at the end of the form for reference only.
