Shelter 2020

Sun 12 Jul 2020 - Mon 16 Nov 2020

MAV is excited to present the 44 artworks by Victorian culturally diverse artists and artists of colour who have taken part in Shelter 2020.

Shelter is an innovative commissions program developed by MAV to respond to the unique challenges presented by COVID-19 for culturally diverse artists and communities. The first iteration of Shelter has seen the engagement of over 50 diverse artists and artists of colour to produce new works that reflect on the ways we have reimagined and renegotiated our relationships to home and each other during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria.

Shelter is part of MAV’s new strategy, which not only responds to the challenges of this COVID-19 time in amplifying the voices of people of colour, but also expands our understanding of diverse lived experiences as a way of grappling with contemporary perspectives on Victorian multiculturalism, which are at once rich, complex and indefinite.

Shelter Instagram Artist Takeovers

MAV has invited some of the Shelter artists to take over MAV’s Instagram stories between 22 Oct and 16 Nov.

They will be sharing stories and behind the scenes info about their Shelter works, their artistic practices, being an artist during lockdown and so much more.

Follow MAV’s Instagram, @MAVArtsAU, for more information and updates.

Shelter is supported by Australia Council for the Arts and Creative Victoria.
