MAV’s NEWPRINT program supports up-and-coming live event producers from culturally diverse backgrounds to make their mark in Naarm/Melbourne’s live music scene.
The second iteration of the program successfully ran from January - July 2023.
NEWPRINT made its return for a second season, featuring a series of live music events that highlighted the most exciting new acts in Naarm/Melbourne during the first half of 2023.
The program played a crucial role in supporting emerging producers of colour as they made a name for themselves in the vibrant Melbourne contemporary music scene.
In 2023, NEWPRINT 2 showcased the talents of the following producers:
These visionary artists were already leading their own creative movements, and we were thrilled to have supported the development and delivery of unique contemporary live music events.
The events were produced with the aim of showcasing fresh talent, building communities, growing local audiences, and hosting memorable and enjoyable experiences.

MAV supported the producers through professional development opportunities, connections to venues and partners, and ongoing logistical support. The program is grounded by the ethos of self-determination and is all about empowering the next generation of producers of colour.
Producers had full agency to curate their events their way and bring their visions to life.
The Outcomes:
🔥 13 EVENTS, including 4 free events and 5 sold out across 10 venues.
🔥 88 PERFORMING ARTISTS, including 80% CALD, 77% BIPOC and 6% Queer Identifying artists.
🔥 39 CREATIVE WORKERS, including photographers, videographers and graphic designers.
🔥 $40k GROSS INCOME, made by producers.
🔥 78K ONLINE REACH
🔥 2489 AUDIENCE ATTENDANCE across the City of Melbourne, Yarra, Maribyrnong, Darebin and Merri-Bek.
NEWPRINT 2 was presented by MAV and supported by On The Road Again, a Victorian Government initiative to bring live music back across the state, and Australia Council for the Arts.
