A depiction of human-microbiome interactions, research on the brain-gut axis states that microbes in the intestines send signals via the Vagus nerve to the brain, affecting our moods.
The series The Forest on my Flesh by Priyanka Jain examines the Metro Tunnel as a site of microbial interaction. Digging exposed microbes of the deep, bacteria is used to create self-healing concrete and the bodily exchange of passengers. The weather, the foods we eat, the surfaces we touch, and our environments are inextricably connected and yet unconnected until it hits our realisation. The circular insets resemble the cross sections of our nerves and blood vessels which are our internal transport tunnels.
The Forest on my Flesh – I is currently featured as a large-scale print in the Metro Tunnel Creative Program, installed at the construction-site hoarding at Anzac Station.
