Vale Stefan Romaniw OAM, former chair of MAV

It is with profound sadness that MAV acknowledges the sudden passing of former MAV Chair Stefan Romaniw OAM.

A charismatic and inspiring leader, Stefan joined the Board in 2001 and served as the Chair of MAV from 2004 to 2016. Stefan was an immensely loved respected, and admired member of our community who believed deeply in multiculturalism.

Stefan held leadership roles within broader Australian and Ukrainian communities including the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, Ukrainian World Congress and Ukrainian School Council of Victoria. He served as a principal of the Ukrainian Community School in North Melbourne for 17 years. Past MAV leaders remember his awe-inspiring ability to go toe-to-toe with government and other stakeholders to increase the organisation’s profile and funding. A legacy that reflects his enormous spirit and selfless dedication to social cohesion.

MAV offers our deepest condolences to Anastasia, his children Peter and Theresa, and all his family, including Natalia and Michael Moravski.
